TO EMPTY AND CLEAN A SUMP COMPLETELY WHEN CHANGING
FLUIDS:
|
|
Use the PFA-1002 to pump out,
filter, and recover most of the coolant or cutting oil,
then use the drum head VAC-55 + the existing shop wet/dry
vacuum to vacuum the sludge & chips directly into
the disposal drum without shoveling or scraping.
Results: Sump is emptied, Cutting oil or coolant
is filtered and pumped
to a hold tank or back into the sump, Chips & Sludge
are in a 55-gallon disposal drum___
No shoveling, scraping, or sludge transfer required!
See below: First, a description of
the VAC-55,
Then, a description of the convenient three step process
for cleaning sumps

VAC-55 DRUM HEAD
|
The VAC-55 converts your existing shop wet/dry
vacuum into an efficient sump cleaning device,
while protecting the shop vacuum from contamination
by the sludge. The VAC55 consists of a plastic
head for a 55 gallon drum with two quick connect
fittings for vacuum hoses, one hose to connect
to the shop wet/dry vacuum cleaner, and the other
a flexible hose with a wand to vacuum the sump.
Simply place the light weight (10 lbs) VAC-55
on the drum which is to be used to dispose of
the chips, connect the hose of the shop vacuum
to the fitting provided, and vacuum the wet sludge/chips
into the disposal drum, using the 6 foot flexible
hose and 2 foot inlet wand to reach the corners
of the sump. A short length of clear hose in the
line to the wet/dry vac shows visually when the
drum is full.

SIMPLE
3-STEP METHOD TO EMPTY A SUMP AND RECLAIM THE FLUID
|
|
1) Pump out most of the fluid and filter suspended
solids with PFA-1002
|
|
When
changing the coolant or oil in the sump, the PFA1002
pump/filter unit can pump out and filter most of
the fluid and deliver the filtered coolant or oil
to the feed tank or disposal drums. Solids collected
in the bag filter can be emptied into the disposal
drum. The PFA-1002 can pump out most of the liquid
and suspended solids, but it leaves the settled
thick sludge in the sump.

2) Vacuum chips/sludge into the disposal drum
with VAC-55 and the shop vac
|
|
|
The chips & sludge remaining after pumping
out with the PFA1002 can be vacuumed directly
into the disposal drum using the VAC55
vacuum drum head and the existing shop wet/dry
vacuum. The VAC-55 with the shop vacuum can rapidly
clean essentially all the settled sludge from
the sump and transfer it to the disposal drum,
without any manual shoveling.
|
|
|
3) Using the PFA-1002, pump filtered fluid from
the feed tank to refill the sump
|
|
|
Using the PFA-1002, pump filtered fluid from
the feed tank or clean oil drum to recharge the
sump. The self-priming pump on the PFA-1002 can
pump from the feed tank using the hoses and fitting
provided and deliver the filtered fluid under
pressure to any location in the shop.

|
Results of the 3 Step
Process:
1) Sump is completely emptied
2) Chips & sludge are in a 55-gallon disposal drum
3) Cutting oil or coolant is filtered and pumped to
a hold tank or back into the sump.
No shoveling, scraping, or sludge transfer required!

METHOD TO CLEAN AND RECHARGE A GRINDER SUMP |
| To
clean a sump with a particularly heavy load of solids,
such as a grinder sump, pumping off liquid
with suspended solids from the top of the sump with the
PFA-1002 (as in step #1 above) may require inconveniently
frequent filter bag cleanings or changes because of the
solids load. A more convenient process, described below,
is first to empty the sump completely into 55-gallon disposal
drums with the VAC-55 and the shop vac, allow the solids
to settle in the drums, and then pump off, filter, and
recover the fluid using the PFA-1002. |
1) Pull the contents of the sump into 55-gallon
disposal drums using the VAC-55
|
|
|
Pull all the contents of the sump, including
settled sludge, into 55-gallon disposal drums
using the VAC-55 and shop wet/dry vacuum. Allow
the solids in the drum to settle.
|
|
|
2) Using the PFA-1002, pump & filter the
fluid and return it to the sump
|
|
|
After the sludge settles in the drum for several
hours or overnight, recover and filter the liquid
which has separated on top of the settled solids
using the PFA-1002 and the inlet wand with the
U-fitting. The U-fitting permits skimming the
liquid without sinking the inlet wand into the
sludge. The PFA-1002 can pump the filtered liquid
back to the sump or to a clean liquid holding
tank. The solids remain in the drum for disposal.
